A well proportioned rug can tie a room together, but getting the size and placement right can often be tricky. We’ve put together these tried and tested layouts to help guide you to find the perfect size rug for your space.
Living Room
In the living room, the ideal rug size is one that accommodates all the furniture with about 20cm of rug visible on each side. This ensures a cohesive and well-proportioned look. An alternative approach is to place the front legs of the furniture on the rug, adding a touch of sophistication. For those seeking a more intimate atmosphere, a round rug can create a cozy focal point. If a smaller rug is preferred, arranging furniture at an even distance around the outer edges is crucial. However, it's essential to avoid rugs that are too small, as they may make the room appear cramped and disrupt the visual flow of furniture.
Dining Room
In the dining room, selecting the right rug size and placement is crucial for a harmonious look. Ideally, the dining room rug should extend a minimum of 60cm beyond all sides of the dining table, ensuring that dining chairs remain comfortably on the rug even when in use. This prevents the rug from catching on the back of the chairs or becoming a tripping hazard. To achieve a cohesive aesthetic, it's recommended to match the shape of the rug to that of the dining table. Bedroom
Create an inviting and harmonious bedroom setting with the ideal rug placement. A prevalent choice involves positioning a spacious rug beneath the bed, extending approximately 60cm beyond the foot of the bed. This configuration allows bedside tables to rest entirely off the rug. For a more opulent aesthetic, provided space allows, arrange both the bed and bedside tables atop a generously sized rug, revealing around 70-90cm of the rug along its edges. Alternatively, introduce a touch of flair by placing a round rug off-center at the foot of the bed, or instill balance and symmetry by incorporating runners on each side of the bed.
