Living Room Rugs to Bring Your Space Together

A beautiful rug can completely change the way a living room feels. Our collection of living room rugs brings together wool, washable, textured and easy-care designs in colours and sizes chosen to complement Australian homes.

Whether you're creating a relaxed family room or a more refined lounge, find a rug that connects your furniture and gives the space a beautifully considered foundation.

How to Choose a Living Room Rug

Start with the way your furniture is arranged. Your rug should feel connected to your sofa and surrounding seating rather than sitting independently beneath the coffee table.

In most living rooms, allowing at least the front legs of your sofa and occasional chairs to sit on the rug creates a more cohesive result.

Choosing Your Living Room Rug Size

One of the most common styling mistakes is choosing a rug that's too small. A more generous rug can help the room feel balanced by visually connecting the major furniture pieces.

For bigger furniture settings, browse our Large Rugs or Extra Large Rugs.

Choosing a Colour & Texture

Consider your flooring, sofa and larger furniture pieces together. A soft neutral rug creates a calm foundation, while deeper colour or pattern can add definition to a simpler room.

In a restrained interior, texture can add depth without introducing strong colour. Explore our Neutral Rugs or Beige & Cream Rugs for softer palettes.

Choosing a Living Room Rug for Everyday Life

Think about how the room is actually used. A beautifully textured Wool Rug can introduce natural warmth and softness, while a Machine Washable Rug may offer greater practicality in a busy family living area.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size rug is best for a living room?

The right size depends on your furniture setting rather than room dimensions alone. Choose a rug large enough to visually connect the sofa and surrounding seating.

Should the sofa sit on the living room rug?

In most layouts, positioning at least the front legs of the sofa on the rug creates a more cohesive look. In larger rooms, the entire furniture setting may sit comfortably on the rug.

What colour rug makes a living room feel bigger?

Lighter and tonal colours can maintain an open feeling, but size is equally important. A generously proportioned rug can often make the room feel more expansive than a smaller rug.
